The deeper meaning
of “SWINGERS” can be summed up in one word: NETWORKING. Yes, the movie has a prominent
romantic comedy type of theme, but there is much more to the movie then that.
If we break the scenes down and listen to the dialogue very carefully, we can
see that our characters have two things on their minds, meeting women and
advancing themselves within their industry.
Networking is very
simple. All one has to do is, literally, get out there. Converse, drink, eat,
talk and talk some more. Meeting people and building strong relationships are
what will ultimately advance you in your professional life. Sure, interior
advancement can also do this, but this is still thinking inside the box. You
should never stop hunting for that next big opportunity. The more you hunt, the
more you eat. There will be a lot of speed
bumps on the way and situations that you will fail at. You have to fail,
because that is how you grow. In the movie, our main character shows us that he
does not but fail, but by the end we see him learn and grow from his
experiences and inevitably gets what he wants.
As professionals
in our respected industries, networking has to be a top priority. Always have
an open mind and always have a business card on you because you just never know
when opportunity will strike.
