Week 4 EOC: The Devil Wears Prada, Deeper Meaning

Today we watched a short clip of the movie, The Devil Wears Prada. The video has a prominent fashion theme, however we can take many different ideas away from the opening scenes. Our main character goes in for a job interview, and she does a few things right, but a lot of things wrong.
She eats breakfast, brushes her teeth, reads the newspaper and properly dresses herself for an “Interview.” What she should not have done was have an onion bagel for breakfast, and she should have researched who she was having an interview with. This is by far one of the most important things to do, when it comes to going to interviews and she walked in there blindly. Another thing she did wrong was she never even read the magazine that she had the interview with. In the real world, common sense would hit anyone and tell them to perhaps look at the magazine that you are interviewing for. She also did not really speak onto her strengths of the position. The position was for an assistant, instead of speaking on her editorial experiences, she should have given examples of her multi-tasking skills or situations where she was overburdened with work and still excelled and met deadlines.
Again, we can take a lot away from this film, but I feel one of the most important things to take away is to do your research and play the role. With these two things in your arsenal you will be well equipped when entering a job interview in the future.

Week 3 EOC: Deeper Meaning Of Swingers

The deeper meaning of “SWINGERS” can be summed up in one word: NETWORKING. Yes, the movie has a prominent romantic comedy type of theme, but there is much more to the movie then that. If we break the scenes down and listen to the dialogue very carefully, we can see that our characters have two things on their minds, meeting women and advancing themselves within their industry.
Networking is very simple. All one has to do is, literally, get out there. Converse, drink, eat, talk and talk some more. Meeting people and building strong relationships are what will ultimately advance you in your professional life. Sure, interior advancement can also do this, but this is still thinking inside the box. You should never stop hunting for that next big opportunity. The more you hunt, the more you    eat. There will be a lot of speed bumps on the way and situations that you will fail at. You have to fail, because that is how you grow. In the movie, our main character shows us that he does not but fail, but by the end we see him learn and grow from his experiences and inevitably gets what he wants.
As professionals in our respected industries, networking has to be a top priority. Always have an open mind and always have a business card on you because you just never know when opportunity will strike.

Week 1 EOC : My VOICE

As an audio professional, sound and audio have always been a major part of my life. To me audio is art. Live sound is my main priority, but pre-production sound and installation are a tremendous passion of mine. I have done many audio installations such as weddings, multi-room sound for restaurants, small business office sound, and on site audio mixing. Another large part of experience comes from full in-home theatre installation. From in-wall wiring to building custom frames for projector screens, I have done it all when it comes to custom home theatre needs. Dream Entertainment is a company based in Las Vegas, and is where most of my pre-production experience comes from working side by side with the founder to set up many different sound audio systems for many different companies. Station Casinos is one of the largest clients for Dream Entertainment and I personally set up multiple audio systems for every Station casino. A career in live sound reinforcement would be an absolute dream come true to me. Working for a venue and being an on-site live sound technician is what I am striving for hopefully one day ending up in the city of Chicago, Il.

My background is in live sound reinforcement, which includes live mixing and installation, I currently also record and produce music for local artists who are in the process of getting their art out into the world.
